2017 RANGERS COACHES

TAL GRAVELLE-VARSITY HEAD COACH

Coach Gravelle has a long history with Forest Lake Baseball as a player and coach. This is his 6th year as the Head Coach with a career record of 82 wins-46 losses. He was also a varsity assistant for 10 years-serving as the pitching coach. 13 of his players have gone on to play in college. As a player at Forest Lake High School he was a three year letter winner, Captain, all conference and a member of the Lions all-state team.  Played two years of College baseball at St. John's University, before graduating from St. Cloud State. He participated in high school hockey (3 year letter winner, captain) and football (2 year letter winner, captain, all conference). He was inducted to Forest Lake Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.  

Gravelle has worked the last 19 years as an Account Executive for Adidas. His wife Jayne is a Forest Lake graduate and accountant for the Integris Group. They have two children-Lauren is a Nurse at U of M in Minneapolis.  Brett is a freshman playing hockey at St. Thomas University. 

KALE HENRY-VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Henry is in his sixth year as a varsity assistant and seventeenth year as a member of the Rangers coaching staff. He serves as the third base coach and the infield coach for the varsity program. He was a former Ranger baseball player and played several years of amateur baseball for the Forest Lake Lakers. In addition to his coaching experience at the high school, Henry has coached the Forest Lake VFW (16 and under), Mickey Mantle (16 and under) and American Legion baseball teams in Forest Lake. He guided the 2004 Mickey Mantle team to a State Championship. He is also a varsity basketball assistant coach at FLHS. Henry is employed as a 6th grade teacher at Forest Lake Elementary and resides in Forest Lake with his wife Teresa and her three daughters.

KYLE JOHNSON-JV HEAD COACH

Coach Kyle was born and raised in Forest Lake. He has been active in the Forest Lake Baseball program all his life. He was on the 2004 State Champion Mickey Mantle Baseball Team with Coach Trip Schultz. That team was coached by Kale Henry and Gary Storm. Kyle played Varsity baseball for Coach Raabe and Coach Gravelle winning two Conference Championships. He is also entering his 8th year playing for the Forest Lake Brewers Amateur Baseball Team.

Kyle has been working for the City of Vadnais Heights in the Parks Department for 4 years maintaining all the ball fields and parks within the city. Kyle and his wife Courtney currently live in Centerville with their two dogs Brick and Fitzy and are expecting their first child in August.

Kyle is looking forward to his 7th year with the program and is excited to take on his new role as the JV head coach.

TRAVIS EVGEN-JV ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Travis Evgen was born and raised in Forest Lake. He played baseball in the community for his entire career. As a player for Forest Lake High School he lettered three times and was named All-Conference as a Senior. He then went on to play college baseball at Briar Cliff University where he was a four year starter, two year captain, and was twice named Academic All-American. After graduating, he was on the Sioux City West High School baseball coaching staff for three seasons. He is looking forward to working with the kids to help make them as successful as possible.

TIM CONLEY-SOPHOMORE HEAD COACH

Coach Conley is in his third year as Sophomore Coach under Coach Gravelle. He has lived in Forest Lake for 55 years. He was the Head Coach for 14 years and went to State 4 times, finishing second once. He has also coached at many different levels over the years at the Jr. High level, traveling, Mickey Mantle, and American Legion. He always enjoys working with the great players in the Forest Lake Area. Tim was the Community Education Youth Athletic Coordinator for 21 years, running all the community youth programs for the Forest Lake Area. He is retired now and stays busy coaching basketball and baseball and officiating basketball, along with taking care of his grandchild. Tim has a beautiful wife Cheryl and three sons, Shaun his wife Angela (Jack and Olivia), Chris and Brian (Christopher).

TRIP SCHULTZ-VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Schultz was born and raised in Forest Lake. He has played baseball in the community for his entire career. As a player at Forest Lake High School he was a 3 year starter in both baseball and football. He went on to letter all three years, was All-Conference, All-Metro, All-State Honorable Mention, was a participant of the Lyons All-Star Tournament and East vs. West All Star game during his career. Trip then attended the University of Minnesota on scholarship to play baseball. From there he went on to be part of the 2010 Big Ten Championship team and lettered four times. He now lives within the community and works for RE/MAX Synergy...A Muske Company in Forest Lake. He also works with youth athletes as a coach for youth football and conducts baseball training out of a private facility. Trip is looking forward to a new challenge of working with the high school staff and the varsity team. He looks to build the skills of the team and its players, especially outfield, hitting and base running.

BEN NORLING-SOPHOMORE ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Ben Norling grew up in Forest Lake. He played baseball all the way through high school. He was on the Forest Lake Varsity Baseball team his Junior and Senior year and went to state both years. He played college baseball at Bethel University for one year. This is Coach Norlings first year coaching and he is looking forward to working with the kids.
