What is the FLAST?
The Forest Lake Alpine Ski Team is a Forest Lake High School varsity sport that includes both boys and girls Varsity and JV teams. Enrolled students 7th-12th grade are welcome to join the team.
Who is the Coach of the Forest Lake Alpine team?
Head Coach Trevor Pinewski and assistant Ty LaTourneau.
Who are the Captains?
Marcus Longsdorf , Tina Oschenbauer
Where and when do we practice?
We practice at Wild Mountain our "home hill" on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays. The team rides a bus from the High School right after school over to Wild. Junior high students shuttle over to the high school. We return back to the high school on the bus at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Where and when do we race?
We race conference races at Wild Mountain and Afton Alps five times throughout the season. There are also additional invitationals and sections at various locations. Please see either this Shutterfly page (https://forestlakealpine.shutterfly.com/) for race dates and locations or the high school athletic schedule website.
Do I need a ski pass at Wild mountain to participate?
Yes, you will need a full season pass.
How do I get to practice at Wild and races at other venues?
Bus service is provided, bring snacks and/or money for food and a book light to do your homework in transit. If your teacher uses Google Classroom, please make sure to open your docs prior to leaving school so you can "work offline" to complete homework. Skiers will need a ride home from the high school after practice and races.
Can I participate on the FLAST and local D-teams/USSSA clubs?
Yes! The more skiing the better!
What gear do I need?
You need your own skis, poles, racing boots & helmet.
G-suits, shin guards and pole guards are helpful, but not necessary at first if a skier is new to racing. Skiers are encouraged to purchase used gear at the ski swap or the alpine team is offered a discount at both Joe's Sporting Goods, Hi-Tempo and Pinewskis.
I still have questions, now what?
E-mail Coach Kelsey, the captains, or one of the parent contacts and we'll do our best to answer them.
Jr. High students practicing at the high school need to get passes from Dustina at Century or Lisa at SW, these will be available the week before their season starts.
